It is now agreed that circumcision offers some protection against certain sexually transmissible infections.
This is because the lack of a foreskin means fewer skin folds where agents of infection can congregate and survive. It’s also true that repeated infections, giving rise to chronic inflammation can, in some circumstances, encourage the development of cancer.
However, further studies will be needed to support any connection between circumcision and a lower risk of prostate cancer.
