Among the over 65s, taking regular exercise can help to improve balance and thus protect against falls. But what sort of exercise is best?

A team of Scottish researchers carried out a meta-analysis by compiling and analysing the results of a series of studies relating to the same subject. They then drew up a list of the most effective of the different types of activity. These turned out to be: walking, cycling, Tai Chi, yoga, using vibrating fitness plates (power plates), muscle building exercise and even using interactive games consoles…
